It seems that every other person I talk to has had their tonsils removed in childhood or early adulthood. Some mothers have even been talked into having their children’s tonsils removed prophylactically! In this post I’d like to discuss why this is a bad idea, the true function of the tonsils and why we should listen to what they are telling us, how to heal them naturally and also how you should manage without them if you were the victim of a tonsillectomy.

What are the tonsils?

The tonsils are, little nugget-sized organs that sit in the back of your throat. They are in fact, a major part of the lymphatic system. Dr. Morse calls them “the septic tanks of the head”.

What are their function?

Like all lymph nodes, the tonsils are full of beneficial bacteria. The lymphatic system brings metabolic waste from the head to the tonsils so that it may be processed (broken down to a higher pH by the bacteria) and released from the body. When tonsils become swollen and painful you can be sure they are processing a lot of waste that has been released. You may see some white spots or “exudate” on the surface during a healing crisis. This is bacteria working overtime to remove an excess of waste material from your body.

At this time the throat becomes very sore (acids burn) and you will go to the doctor for assistance. The doctor will take a look at your swollen tonsils and prescribe an antibiotic. The antibiotic will kill the bacteria in your tonsils, thus stopping their work, inflammation will go down, but the wastes remain in the body and are now pushed deeper into the tissues.

Later on, the bacteria will repopulate in the tonsils like the helpers they are, and will again start to do their job of moving metabolic wastes from the head. Again, soreness and inflammation arise, you go back to the doctor and finally, maybe after several rounds of antibiotics, he books you for a tonsillectomy.

Removing an organ does not heal the cause!

When the tonsils are absent, waste is not removed as readily from the head and throat. It may stick around and sadly, damage the cells in the sinuses, causing chronic congestion, thyroid issues, and later cognitive and memory problems. Some practitioners suggest that removing them creates a larger gateway for viruses to reach the heart and higher incidence of developing “autoimmune “ conditions down the road.

Tonsils become inflamed in childhood around the time our bodies stop making lactase—the enzyme needed for milk digestion. In this culture we eat and drink a lot of dairy products that are the number one mucus-forming “food” on the planet! Mucus is just the substance that the body produces to cover things that it does not recognize as food so as to protect our organs from it. This mucus gets stuck in our sinuses and throats especially as the body tries to remove it. During a healing crisis (cold or flu) the body will push all this old mucus to the surface to be released.

Dairy is not the only culprit for mucus production in the body, but it is the major one.
So, what do you do if your tonsils are constantly painful and inflamed? Or maybe, you have tonsil stones (hardened acids that calcify and are then pushed out into the throat to be released through the mouth or GI tract)?

You know that the good bacteria in your septic tanks are working hard. You’ve got to assist your body now in removing the wastes.

  1. STOP consuming dairy in all its forms: cheese, milk, ice cream, etc. While healing also remove all the other mucus forming, acidic foods from your diet: meat, gluten, soy, most grains, processed foods and refined sugary stuff.
  2. Eat fresh, whole, ripe, raw fruits and vegetables in abundance or do a fast (water, juice or dry) if that suits you.
  3. Gargle with (and drink) an astringent tea.
Herbs that are astringent pull on the lymph system to help move wastes through the body. Herbs are a tonic to the tonsils and help to restore their tissues as the continual acid wastes break them down.
  4. Rest and let the healing happen. Do not fear a healing crisis. We are taught to run to OTC remedies or our doctors at the onset of illness, but what we really need to do is understand that process and allow it to happen without suppressing it.

See a practitioner of the healing arts who understands this process if you are really struggling. If you are having trouble breathing because tonsils are so inflamed seek emergency medical attention.

If you are the victim of a childhood tonsillectomy or removed them before you understood how vital these organs are you must now become a warrior of health for your body.

Eat a diet that is non-mucus forming, clean the bowels out well as there is a big correlation of lymph congestion in the transverse colon and head area. Eat a lot of astringent fruits and drink astringent teas. Understand the role of the kidneys in relationship to the lymphatic system and support them by eating a diet low in proteins. Low fat, raw fruit and vegetable consumption, regenerates and heal’s the body on a cellular level. It’s not a die-t, it is how we fix the decades of abuse and breakdown of our cell’s and genetics.

Energetically, the tonsils hold the energy of the throat chakra—speaking your truth, feeling silenced, powerlessness—feeling like you’re screaming and not feeling heard. We speak things into being. Choose your words carefully.

If you’re having thyroid issues as an adult after having a tonsillectomy follow these tips to help move lymph from the throat/head area above and consult with a practitioner on ways to boost and restore thyroid function. Karen

The take home message is this.

Chronic infection’s are a direct result of the culturing medium you are setting up in your body.
Acid ash forming foods or Alkaline ash forming foods.
